Do myths about 5G contain a grain of truth?

5G stands for the fifth generation of wireless technology, the latest and most advanced form of wireless communication. 5G technology is designed to be faster, more reliable, and able to support more devices than previous generations of wireless technology such as 4G, 3G, and 2G.

5G out here is expected to revolutionise the IoT space with significant improvements that can achieve the unthinkable by enabling new capabilities and widening applications that were challenging for previous generations

One of the key advantages of 5G technology is its ability to support the growing number of connected devices, including Internet of Things (IoT) devices, smart homes, and autonomous vehicles. 5G is also expected to enable new applications such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and telemedicine, among others.

Every new technology faces scrutiny and so it is 5G technology, its hype, and expectations seem to be outweighed by the myths and over-estimated concerns. So, through this blog let's factually reason out these statements by diving into the ocean of reality.

Few claim that the mechanisms and radiations of the 5G technology stimulate viruses such as COVID-19 and hence should be adopted.

Reality - The radiation level of 5G is similar to that of the preceding 4th generation and hence there isn't any significant reason to argue that with the adoption of this tech human life will be impacted irrationally. Scientific studies clearly justify that COVID-19 is caused by a biological agent SARS-CoV-2 that spreads through respiratory pigments and not radio waves.

People debate that the radio frequency and electromagnetic fields including those used by 5G technology could harm human health.

Reality - The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified radio frequency, and electromagnetic fields, including those used by 5G, as "possibly carcinogenic to humans," but this classification is based on limited and inconclusive evidence.

5G was initially developed for mobile communication and hence people argued that 5G is only for mobiles.

Reality - While 5G technology is indeed used for mobile phones, it is also used for a wide range of other applications including smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Its potential applications extend far beyond mobile phones and can impact various industries and sectors.

There is a misconception that the 5G radiations will be able to hinder the nerve impulse communication of the human brain and maybe even end up being able to control it.

Reality - 5G technology is a wireless communication technology that uses radio waves to transmit data. The radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) used by 5G is generally considered safe when it is within recommended limits established by international health organisations. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and other reputable health organisations have conducted extensive research on the potential health effects of RF-EMF exposure, and have not found any evidence that it can control the human mind or behaviour.

In a so deeply connected world, it's very easy to bridge across channels, maintaining data privacy and security is a major problem. Privacy breaches are so common that makes people believe that 5G will only boost such activities.

The security of 5G networks is not only dependent on the technology itself but also on the users and their behaviour.
